Fasting and Overeating

September 30, 2009 |12:37 | Over Eating  By : Team X

Fasting and OvereatingYou could almost say that Jason “Crazy Legs” Conti is an expert in fasting, since he goes without eating for up to 36 hours at a time at least 40 times a year. But if you did say that, Conti would correct you:

While most weeks he does not put food in his mouth for a full day and a half, that is because he is busy digesting the 34 ¾ ears of corn.

He consumed in the prior 12 minutes, or the 24 dozen oysters he ate in eight. Eating takes on a completely different meaning in the world of competitive eaters.

That is what they call themselves; sometimes “gurgitators.” Conti is one of 50 ranked competitive eaters in “Major League Eating.” At the moment his rank is 14th.

How to stop overeating

August 10, 2009 |16:14 | Over Eating  By : Team X

How to stop overeatingYou probably know that if you eat more calories than you burn off, you're going to gain weight. It's simple math. But if you keep eating your favourite foods long after you're full, sometimes long after you feel sick from the overeating, your brain may be hindering your weight loss plans.

That drive to overeat -- his own drive to overeat -- is what led Dr. David Kessler to write the book The End of Overeating, (McLelland & Stewart, 2009). "I wanted to understand why that chocolate chip cookie had such power over me," he explains in an e-mail interview. "My own overeating wasn't limited to chocolate chip cookies... cakes, fries, you name it!"

When Overeating Starts Early

July 24, 2009 |13:02 | Over Eating  By : Team X

When Overeating Starts EarlyHow early does overeating really start? That’s the provocative question raised by restaurant critic Frank Bruni in this week’s New York Times magazine.

The article, adapted from Frank’s soon to be published memoir, “Born Round: The Secret History of a Full-Time Eater,” tells the poignant (and somewhat heartbreaking) story of a young boy who can’t seem to get enough food.

Interestingly, Frank explains how he, at a young age, began to adopt some of the behaviors familiar to any adult self-conscious about weight  hiding behind others in photos and wrapping himself in a towel at the pool.

Overeating - How to Stop Over Eating the Easy Way

July 24, 2009 |11:50 | Over Eating  By : Team X

Many people want to stop overeating because the habit can lead to serious problems like obesity. Attempts to quit eating too much often fall short and great feelings of frustration and anxiety emerge. The anti-fat crusade should begin in the mind.

Why Not Begin With Behavior?

You have probably tried to stop overeating through sheer willpower but the compulsion to eat overpowers you every time. You feel defeated and depressed and the only way you know to comfort yourself is through more eating. Unfortunately, the comfort lasts only as long as you are eating. Once you stop, you feel even more depression and self-disgust.

Weight Problems Influenced by How We Eat

June 25, 2009 |10:40 | Over Eating  By : Team X

Being overweight or obese can be influenced by how we eat as opposed to what we eat. These are the findings of recent research into eating habits.

Many of us eat with other things going on at the same time, for example, working or playing on the computer, or watching TV. This typically means we are concentrating on something else and we tend to eat fast. When we eat fast, we often don't feel satisfied and tend to eat more.

When we eat fast, we don't give our brain enough time to notify our body when we've had enough. Research in Japan (published in the British Medical Journal Online) found that fast eaters were three times more likely to be overweight especially when they ate until they were full.

Mindless Eating: The Science of Overeating

June 22, 2009 |16:13 | Over Eating  By : Team X

I watched a CNN special hosted by Dr. Sanjay Gupta.  It was extremely telling.  I was interested in this special because I have always been curious about the fact that as a country we are getting fatter and unhealthier.  Despite the fact that there is a plethora of information about diet and nutrition in this country.   As I suspected, it has as much to do with our environment, our culture and myriad of other influences, such as inherited eating habits from our family.

Study blames over eating, not lack of exercise for US obesity

Study blames over eating, not lack of exercise for US obesityOver eating, not a lack of exercise is to blame for the American obesity epidemic - a new study claimed - warning that physical activity could not fully compensate for excess calories, according to afp. “There is no evidence that a marked reduction in physical activity has been a contributor to this epidemic in the United States,” study leader Boyd Swinburn said.

Swinburn said American children had grown on average four kilogrammes heavier over the past three decades with adults putting on an extra eight kilogrammes. The study calculated what Americans should weigh today based on their current, higher food intake, and comparing this to their actual weight.

Eating on the road

January 19, 2009 |14:22 | Diseases | Health Problems | Over Eating | Researches  By : Team X

Does your work or current lifestyle require frequent meals eaten out? This might be because of traveling or work-related entertaining, networking or just long days away from home.

Such a pattern can mean eating at odd times of the day, falling prey to whatever eating establishment is handy, or larger amounts of food, caffeine, and/or alcohol than would occur if you could set your own schedule and head home each day at the stroke of five o'clock.

Generally, these lifestyle habits do not lead to optimal health. The good news is that with a little preplanning and practice, you can still contribute positively to your health.Preplanning means considering different situations in which you might find yourself and deciding your plan of action ahead of time. If you are traveling by plane, eat a healthy meal before you leave.
