As per a new study which was presented during a meeting of the American Association of Cancer Research in Philadelphia, younger women who consume more soy products containing isoflavone could decrease their risk of developing invasive breast cancer.
This was the beneficial part of the research, however one more study presented at the meeting suggests that hormone replacement therapy could increase the risk of women for ovarian cancer. The research was specially done to observe isoflavones which are the organic compounds found in some kinds of foods. These compounds have antioxidants in them which are assumed to protect women from breast cancer.
The research involved 683 breast cancer patients along with 611 more who did not have breast cancer. The study observed that participants who ate products containing more isoflavones displayed a 30 percent reduced risk of developing the invasive kind of breast cancer.
Study lead author Anne Weaver, a graduate student at the University at Buffalo and a research apprentice with Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo said, "Eating isoflavones seems to be associated mainly with breast cancer characteristics that are more treatable and less severe than other types."
