The problem of depression among adults has been reasoned to be with work stress and even irregular of sleeping hours. However, a new study has reasoned binge drinking to be the cause behind depression in adulthood.
The study was conducted by researchers at the Loyola University in Chicago, who discovered that body's reaction to stress chronically changed, when adolescent rats were introduced to high amounts of alcohol. While talking about the conclusion of the study, One of the Authors, Toni Pak stated that the functioning of the brain completely change, when people are exposed to alcohol earlier on in their life.
Though, Mr. Pak was quick to state that findings of the study were nowhere near to human examples, as the rat model could not be exactly related to the human model. He still felt that the conclusion of the report could direct towards the human situation among drinkers.
Binge drinking is categorized differently among genders, with females consuming 4 drinks as a binge, while for men it is at 5. The study was presented on the 15th of November at the yearly congregation of the Society for Neuroscience.
The study is quite helpful, as a recent study by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration had revealed that 18.8% youngsters aged 12-20 years old had indulged in binge-drinking over the past one month.
