Meetings of a postpartum depression support group are planned for the first and third Tuesdays of every month, 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Jillian's Drawers on the Commons.
The meetings are intended to build confidence and release tension in women struggling with guilt and stress after giving birth. The meetings cater to the needs of any troubled mother, whether diagnosed with depression or simply anxious. The group PPD SpeakEasy will also hold free support phone chats at 8:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month.
Medication disposal
The Coalition for Safe Medication Disposal will hold its next safe medication disposal day on Saturday, Oct. 1, at three locations: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the TCAT garage, 737 Willow Ave. in Ithaca; 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Dryden Fire Department, 26 North St.; and from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lansing Town Hall, 29 Auburn Road.
The event gives residents the chance to safely dispose of old and unneeded household medications. More than 3,300 pounds of unwanted household pharmaceuticals have been collected by the coalition during its safe disposal days over the past three years.
Listening workshop
To really listen requires practice and awareness. There will be a communication workshop on listening from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Ithaca Community Childcare Center (IC3), 579 Warren Road. Participants will work on skills to broaden their capacity and willingness to understand, and to examine the primary obstacles to effective listening; judgment, opinion and the desire to give advice. Attendants are asked to bring snacks and beverages.
