Skinned chicken and Bacon-risk of cancer

Posted in : Other

(added few years ago!)
Consumption of bacon and other processed meat can substantially raise the risk of bladder cancer. People who consume more than 5 portions of bacon every week were are prone to cancer affecting the bladder. The risk is increased by 60% in those who eat bacon regularly, and by 52% in those who eat skinned chicken.

Almost all processed meats are likely to contain chemical called nitrosamines, which can cause bladder cancer. This forms usually when meats are processed at very high temperatures. Cooked chicken with skin is proven to contain a lesser amount of nitrosamines. But the formal researches that try to trace the link between cancer and meats are actually very few. Most of the studies done so far do not actually differentiate which are the meats that cause more risk.

Those who cannot do without the meats cannot give up on smoking either! They tend to smoke more, eat more fatty foods and less of food rich in vitamins. Neither are they less bothered about physical fitness.

It is advised to have a balanced diet that is rich in vegetables and fruit, low in fat, with only occasional helpings of processed and red meat
