The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has come out and recommended that more kids get vaccinated with a flu shot this year.Typically, the recommendation has always been for kids to get a flu shot if they are 2-years and older.
The CDC has expanded this though, as they now want all kids who are 6-months and older to get a flu shot. The idea behind it is that young infants and the elderly are the most vulnerable to the flu, due to their weak immune systems.By doing this, 30 million more flu shots are going to be needed this year alone.
The CDC has made it clear though that they will not run out, as they have 143 million doses of the flu vaccine ready to go.The belief is that the number of doses is more than enough to cover everyone.
Around 261 million Americans are eligible for the flu vaccine, or 85% of the whole U.S. population.Last year though, many did not get the flu shot, and paid the price for it. The hope is that the same will not happen this year.
