An Asthma is a respiratory disorder characterized by wheezing; usually of allergic origin. Universally, over 300 million people are affected with asthma. Researchers from Michigan State University in the USA and The David Hide Asthma and Allergy Research Centre in the UK have shown that the smoking habits of mothers during pregnancy increase asthma risk in children.
Over 900 children were studied who were born between 1989 and 1990 in UK. The scientists have shown that smoking mothers whose children had a specific genotype, were at higher risk of asthma attack compared to other children.
The scientist suggest that mothers should be suggested to shun smoking atleast during her pregnancy for the sake of their children health.
